Beginner Trick Dog Class
This class is designed for handlers and dogs to have FUN TOGETHER and transition from a Basic Obedience or Puppy Class toward higher levels of Obedience, Agility, Therapy or whatever activity you choose to engage with your dog.
Starting with a review of basic obedience exercises (Sit, Down, Come, etc.), you and your dog will then learn a variety of tricks. At the same time, you will continue to build communication and socialization skills and enhance the human/canine bond. Some of the Tricks to be taught in this class include Crawl, Shake Hands (Paws), Take a Bow and Kisses.
Only positive reinforcement training techniques will be used. These include training treats and/or toys along with verbal and physical praise for your dog.
The final class of the six week session will be devoted to individual demonstrations. Each handler and dog will be given the opportunity to do a routine using the tricks learned. A successful demonstration of Novice Tricks may qualify the team for a Novice Trick Dog Title with the AKC and/or a Novice Trick Dog Certificate through “Do More With Your Dog.”
Completion of a Basic Obedience or Puppy Obedience Class will be required prior to being enrolled in the Beginner Tricks Class. Class instructor(s) may waive this requirement pending an evaluation of the handler and dog, demonstrating basic obedience skills.
