Denise Welk – Agility Instructor

Denise Welk fell into dog sports in 2006, living in a new place with no local friends, she saw a sign for “therapy dog classes.” Denise and her dog Moonshine completed the classes and Moonshine received her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification, and was also certified by Therapy Dogs International (TDI). Moonshine was happy to move on to only doing nursing home visits, but Denise was now hooked on training.

Later that year, she began training her 6.5-year-old Border Collie mix, Rowdi, in agility. Then came agility, rally, and obedience with Checkers, Baxter and later Gambit. When Flurry came along, she added flyball to the list, with dock diving a possibility in the future. Gambit, Checkers, and Denise have now discovered barnhunt and are competing in that as well. Denise’s newest adventure in dog training came last year when she adopted an Aussie puppy who is a double merle, and is blind and deaf. Roxy has been an incredible learning experience and has introduced Denise to the world of nosework.

Denise and her herd have competed in ASCA, NADAC, CPE, AKC, USDAA, and TDAA agility; UKC, AKC, ASCA, and CDSP obedience; WCRL, UKC, and AKC rally; NAFA flyball; and BHA barnhunt.
